The 2008 NCAA season is finally underway! Although there has been some games played and most schools are gearing up this week to open their respective seasons, on March 1 the season soars into full swing with the 2008 Konica Minolta Face Off Classic at the home of the NFL's Baltimore Ravens; M&T Bank Stadium in downtown Baltimore, MD.
The event which is in its second year is looking to grow even more after a successful first run in the 2007 season. Currently, well over 11,000 tickets have been sold after drawing 20,180 fans in 2007.
On the ticket are two must see match-ups. At 12pm, Syracuse takes on Virginia followed by Princeton and Johns Hopkins at 2:30pm. Together, these four teams have combined to win all of the past 16 Men's NCAA D1 National Championships and all are highly ranked coming into the season.
We had the opportunity to briefly chat with John Jiloty of Inside Lacrosse about the event. IL is responsible for setting up this great event and we got some information that we deemed helpful for anyone heading out for the great day of college lacrosse. For those looking to check out the latest in equipment and apparel, "We will have a vendor area set up in the concourse with a host of different manufacturers and stores set up." stated Jiloty.
Jiloty also mentioned, "We're (IL) definitely looking at doing other events in the future - here and around the country in attractive venues". The success of this year's Face Off Classic could possibly lead to more great lacrosse events in years to come. So make sure that you come on out for this great day of lacrosse.
In terms of tickets, "we're definitely ahead of last year's pace but there's plenty of time left. Get the good seats by ordering today!" proclaimed Jiloty. And we at LaxSpot agree, so definitely get those tickets in advance to beat the long lines on game day.
Tickets can be purchased at http://www.faceoffclassic.com/.
LaxSpot.com will be in attendance and will be tailgating in either Lot B or C which are located near the Ravens Walk right off of Hamburg Street (between Camden Yards and M&T) View Map. Come on by to meet some of the staff and to enter the raffle for some exciting lacrosse prizes. Just look for the LaxSpot sign! Hopefully we get some great weather again this year and then we can set up the 'corn hole' or 'bagg-o' games for the ultimate in tailgate fun.
See you all on Saturday, March 1, 2008
Syracuse vs. Virginia @ 12:00pm
Princeton vs. Johns Hopkins @ 2:30pm
Welcome to Lax Spot. We're glad your here. Lax Spot is a social network powered by the lacrosse community. Similar to sites such Facebook or MySpace, the power behind Lax Spot is connecting and reconnecting individuals with similar interests and goals. So why not have a network specifically for lacrosse.
But Lax Spot is more than just a social networking site. It gives you the opportunity to tell your story and let others know what's going on in your world. Create a blog to tell others about your team, your kid’s team, your favorite college team, or any other topic of interest to you. Our sport is far from having saturated coverage; and there are a lot of interesting teams, leagues, games, and individuals out there that aren't being covered.
Similar to services like YouTube, we also give you the ability to upload your own lacrosse videos. Got some cool home footage? Did you get some good clips from a local game you attended? Want to show off your skills or your kids skills? Then go ahead and add your videos to Lax Spot.
The ability to create groups is one of the key features of Lax Spot. It allows you to start your own groups such as alumni groups, fans of a certain team, or anything else you can think of. What's really cool is that you can specify whether these groups are private, membership moderated, or open to all. It's a great way to keep in touch with friends and teammates. Each group has it's own forum also.
We have lots of plans for Lax Spot including exclusive blogs from current MLL and NLL stars as well as in season journals from some great current college players. Lax Spot will have lots more original content to come.
Make sure to check out the contests section on the forums. You may have what it takes to win some great prizes.
We want your feedback. So please let us know what you think, and any suggestions you have. We hope you enjoy Lax Spot.
Thanks,
Glen Doss
